Mission

The Savage River Watershed Association (SRWA) is a group of local landowners and other citizens dedicated to preserving and enhancing the rural nature and natural resources of the Savage River watershed by assisting interested landowners and public land managers with environmental stewardship efforts and educational outreach. 

Sign a Petition on Marcellus Shale to Protect the Watershed! Following the State of the Union Address, many of us have grown concerned about the tenor of President Obama’s remarks in support of shale gas drilling, with only slight mention of environmental protection. One of the priorities of the Choose Clean Water Coalition (CCW) is to protect communities from the negative impacts of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and natural gas drilling. CCW decided to petition the Administration to do exactly that. If 25,000 signatures are gathered on this electronic petition in a 30 day time period, it will garner the attention of the White House through an Administration response and could potentially be leveraged into even further action. SRWA encourages our members and friends to sign this petition.

The Watershed The Savage River watershed or drainage basin covers all of the land from which water drains into the Savage River and its tributaries.

Red Spruce Seedlings for Sale SRWA will be planting red spruce (Picea rubens) again this year along several streams in Savage River State Forest. These 10-18” red spruce seedlings are grown in 6” deep plugs, propagated from seed collected in nearby West Virginia. Generally, SRWA purchases some extra red spruce which we make available at our native plant sales each spring. A number of SRWA members have asked about pre-ordering a larger quantity to plant on their own properties.
